My Top Ten TV Dramas of 2016

by Matthew Thompson

I’m back with part two of my look at television in 2016. Earlier this week, I spotlighted the best comedies of last year and today I’m talking about some of the incredible dramas that graced the small screen in 2016. Here are my ten favorites from this past year Continue reading

My Top Ten TV Comedies of 2016

by Matthew Thompson

I wanted to talk about more shows than ten this year, but to give the part of my brain that frets over rankings a rest, I decided to do two separate lists as opposed to trying to position a bunch of shows in a long list of say 20. So this first top ten will focus on what I’m calling “comedies,” but are more specifically half-hour-long programs. And later this week, I will post one for “dramas” or hour-longs. I’m well aware that some on today’s list lean heavily on dramatic storylines at times and the reverse is true of at least one “drama” on my next list, but I think you get the general idea. Now that the explanation is out of the way, on to the list! Here are my ten favorite comedy television series of 2016 Continue reading

Seven More Great TV Episodes from 2015

by Matthew Thompson

Last week I counted down my top ten shows of 2015. Whittling that list down to a mere ten was difficult in a year overflowing with great television. So I have decided to shine the light on some more shows that either just missed making my ten or while not quite top ten caliber had some highlights worthy of note. To accomplish this, I have chosen seven more great 2015 TV episodes from shows not covered in my initial top ten. Well here they are (Be warned: these do contain spoilers for each episode) Continue reading

My Top Ten TV Shows of 2015

by Matthew Thompson

2015 was a banner year for television. With more and more places jumping into the original programming game, there was tons of great TV to sort through this past year. Needless to say, it was harder than ever to whittle my favorites down to a mere top ten. But with great difficulty, I have done it and now I present to you my list of the best shows 2015 had to offer Continue reading

The Worst of TV in 2014

by Matthew Thompson

I’ve talked about all kinds of good things TV brought us in 2014, but I feel the need to talk about some of the bad too. Now I try to only watch quality TV. While I’m not always successful in this venture, I’m sure I miss out on the real bottom of the barrel stuff. So this just happens to be some of the awful moments, storylines and shows I happened to catch last year plus a little bit about why I thought they were so bad (Warning: These will contain spoilers for the shows in question, so you might want to skim by if you haven’t seen them or just read on and be happy you didn’t have to suffer through them like I did) Continue reading

More Things I Loved on TV in 2014

by Matthew Thompson

Last week I ran through my top ten shows of 2014 (check out Part 1 and Part 2 for yourself!), but that barely scratches the surface of all the great things on television in the past year. So I am here to talk about a bunch more things I loved this year. No real rules for this list other than not hitting any of the same shows I touched on in the top ten. In no particular order, here they are Continue reading

My Top Ten TV Shows of 2014: Part 2

by Matthew Thompson

I’m back to continue my look at the best 2014 had to offer. Today I will be finishing counting down my top ten TV shows of 2014 (if you missed the first half of the list you can see it here). Without further ado, here are my five favorite shows that aired in 2014 Continue reading

My Top Ten TV Shows of 2014: Part 1

by Matthew Thompson

2014 is coming to an end and that means it’s time to compile lists and hand out awards for our favorite things of the year! To kick things off, I’ll be counting down my ten favorite shows that aired in 2014. This is just the tip of iceberg though so look out for more about TV, games and other topics from 2014 throughout the rest of the month. I’ve decided to break the my top ten TV shows into two parts. So, here are ten through six Continue reading

My Favorite TV Shows of 2013

by Matthew Thompson

On the one hand, 2013 saw some of my all-time favorite shows end. Some endings were bittersweet. It’s always tough to say goodbye to characters and worlds you loved so dearly for some years now, but if they get to go out on their own terms, it’s hard to be too upset. Others endings were just bitter with cancellations cutting things shorter than I or the creators would have liked. On the bright side, there were some great new shows that debuted this year. While these may never quite replace those other shows, they do alleviate the sting of loss a bit. This combination of no-longer airing greats and freshman favorites is evidenced in my top ten series of the year. Here they are Continue reading
