by Matthew Thompson

I have a couple more old carvings to show off before Halloween. To this point I had mostly focused on faces, but for these I did full characters Continue reading

Eight Great Halloween-Themed Television Episodes

by Matthew Thompson

I love Halloween. And I love TV. So why not run down some of my favorite Halloween-themed television episodes and specials? I’m not sure these are the best out there. I know there are some highly praised episodes in series I’ve never watched (like Buffy), but these are undoubtably eight great episodes dealing with or capturing the spirit of Halloween. Here they are in no particular order Continue reading

My Gaming Jack-O-Lanterns of Years Past: Link and Tetra

by Matthew Thompson

Halloween has always been a big deal in my family. When I was young, we even used to do a Haunted House at our home that the whole neighborhood would come to. These days I don’t do anything nearly as cool as that. I watch some scary movies and eat some candy. My favorite Halloween tradition and the one I still make time for is carving pumpkins. Some years back I started to do some video game-themed carvings. I know a lot of you have seen these on one of my various blogs over the years, but with a new site and some new readers, I figured it was worth posting some of my recent creations. So I will be posting them in several blogs over the next week Continue reading

TV Check-In: Returning Shows on The CW

by Matthew Thompson

Time to check in with some more of the shows I’ve been watching during the new Fall TV Season. I find myself viewing a surprising amount of shows on The CW these days. It has become a haven for various types of genre television and for that I appreciate the network. Today I’m going to chime in on the seasons so far for the non-rookie shows I’ve been keeping up with (I already talked a bit about The Flash and I hope to chime in on another freshman CW drama next week some time in my next batch of pilot reviews). Well here it goes (these contain spoilers for up to their most recent episode, so beware!) Continue reading

Takeaways: A Thin Line Between Rub and Pick

by Matthew Thompson

This is why I love football. The Florida State-Notre Dame matchup on Saturday night was best game I’ve watched since last year’s National Championship. Despite being the right call (and going in my team’s favor), I do wish there didn’t have to be a penalty on such a pivotal play, but it didn’t mar what was a riveting showdown between two of last few remaining unbeaten teams in the country Continue reading

Gaming Mini-Reviews: FPS Face-Off Edition

by Matthew Thompson

I personally deemed my first set of gaming mini-reviews a success! And now I am back with more. This time I review two first-person shooters I played recently on the PlayStation 4, both of which managed to defy my expectations Continue reading

October TV Pilot Mini-Reviews: Part 1

by Matthew Thompson

A couple of weeks ago, I talked about some of the pilots that aired back in September. Now I am back to give some impressions of another batch from October. Again it is always tough to judge a show by just its pilot, but I wanted to get my thoughts out there and help let you know what is worth your time. And I tried to mention any kind of larger sample I was able to make in some of these cases for a little additional info. I will also be sure to check in with any of these shows I stick with later on in the season. Here it goes Continue reading

TV Check-In: The Good Wife Season 6 (Ep. 1-4)

by Matthew Thompson

(I don’t quite have the time to do weekly reviews, so with this new feature, TV Check-In, I hope to chime in on a show or a few shows each week depending on how in-depth I decide to go. I will talk about the season so far or since the last time I checked in.These will contain spoilers of course so beware!) Continue reading

Gaming Mini-Reviews: Nintendo Platformer Edition

by Matthew Thompson

In an effort to get my thoughts on more games up on the site, I’m going to be trying out a new format. Inspired by my recent TV Pilot Mini-Reviews which I thought turned out well, I will write up some shorter game reviews and bundle a few together for one post. Looking back through what I played earlier this year there were quite a few games I didn’t get the chance to talk about. Three of these were Nintendo platformers which seemed to be a perfect group to test things out on. So here are my thoughts on platformers from three classic Nintendo series that came out over the last couple of years Continue reading
